About us
The Internal Affairs Unit (IAU) of the Divisional Secretariat Akmeemana was established on 22 July 2026 in accordance with PS/SB/Circular/2/2025 dated 18 February 2025. The establishment of Internal Affairs Units forms part of the national initiative to promote a public service in Sri Lanka that is free from bribery and corruption while safeguarding the integrity of public officials.
The Internal Affairs Units have been established to foster a culture of transparency, accountability and integrity throughout the public sector and thereby effectively deliver government service to all citizens.
The unit is responsible for promoting integrity within the Akmeemana Divisional Secretariat, receiving information and complaints regarding suspected irregularities, and providing support for taking necessary action in accordance with the relevant laws, regulations, and established procedures.
Objectives
In line with these national initiatives, the Divisional Secretariat Akmeemana established the Internal Affairs Unit as a dedicated focal point to achieve the following objectives:
- Prevent corruption in the institution and cultivate a culture of integrity.
- Ensure transparency and accountability in all activities of the institution and ensure public access to information regarding institutional practices and decisions.
- Promote ethical governance within the institution.
- Develop a secure and accessible system to encourage reporting misconduct, protect whistleblowers and maintain confidentiality.
- Support legal enforcement through collaboration with law enforcement agencies and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIAВОС).
